Gynaecology comes from a Greek word which literally means the study of women. A gynaecologist focuses on the health of a woman's reproductive system, from their first period to menopause and beyond. It's a woman's unique branch of medicine and requires someone who has both expertise and a genuinely caring manner.
Dr Pat began his gynaecology training in 2002, working at Melbourne's Royal Women's Hospital before starting his own practice in Ballarat in 2009. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery for problems such as leaky bladder and prolapse and advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for pelvic pain and heavy periods.
Not all treatments require hospital admissions and many treatments can be performed in our modern and fully equipped procedure room assisted by our practice nurse. These include procedures for abnormal smears and placement of contraception IUDs such as Mirena™.
Dr Pat understands that seeing a gynaecologist can be at best an inconvenience for some women and at worse distressing for others.
To help you relax, he and his staff strive to create an environment which is friendly, modern and comfortable. Pat is patient in his approach and takes time to listen to your concerns, even if this runs him a bit late at times!
